My Fascination with White Horses

There is something almost otherworldly about white horses, even though I love photographing all colors. They are symbols of purity, grace, and an ethereal beauty that transcends the mundane. When I photograph these magnificent creatures, I'm not just capturing their form; I'm capturing a piece of Icelandic lore, a fragment of the mystical tales that have been woven into the fabric of our culture.

Contrast and Harmony

The stark white of their coats against the dark, volcanic landscape of Iceland creates a visual symphony. Whether against the backdrop of black sand beaches, the lush green of mossy fields, or the ruggedness of our mountains, these horses illuminate the scene, bringing a balance of light and dark, softness and strength.

My journey with horses began long before I picked up a camera. I grew up with them, visiting a herd of 60 horses almost daily as a child and then later I became a horse trainer. I learned to understand better their behaviour and unspoken language. This intimate knowledge allows me to anticipate those fleeting moments of magic - a serene glance, a playful gallop, a moment of connection between horse and nature.

The Art of Patience

Photographing these white beauties is as challenging as it is rewarding. The unpredictable Icelandic weather, the varying light conditions, and the reflective nature of their coats all play a part in the process. But the hours I spend in the field, waiting, watching, are moments of meditation for me.
